eBay: Third Point's Loeb Has 'Significant Position,' Says CNBC; Talked to Donahoe

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J [at Barrons.com] - It seems where Carl Icahn failed, Dan Loeb perhaps succeeded. Following eBay's (EBAY) statement this morning that eBay will split into two companies, the "Marketplaces" business and the Paypal payments business, CNBC's Scott Wapner reports that unnamed sources tell him that activist fund Third Point's Dan Loeb had "taken a significant position" in eBay before the split was announced. "He had had conversations with John Donahoe," eBay's CEO, said Wapner. You'll recall that Carl Icahn earlier this year lobbied the company aggressively for months, hurling accusations at Donahoe of mismanagement, along with the board of directors, on various counts, before ceasing his efforts back in April when eBay agreed to appoint to the board of directors Dave Dorman, formerly of AT&T (T).
