Exclusive: Cablevision to make $1 offer for New York Daily News

Dolan, President and CEO of Cablevision Systems and Executive Chairman of Madison Square Garden Company, speaks during a news conference to announce details of a newly renovated Madison Square Garden in New York U.S. cable T.V. operator Cablevision Systems Corp is planning to make an offer for the New York Daily News as early as this week, valuing the troubled tabloid at just $1, according to a person familiar with the matter. The offer would come one month after New York media and real estate magnate Mortimer Zuckerman said he was considering selling the newspaper and had hired Lazard Ltd to assist with the process. Cablevision's $1 bid takes into account the New York Daily News' reported $30 million annual loss and $150 million investment in a printing press, and declining circulation that relies heavily on newsstand sales rather than on subscriptions, the source said. Cablevision declined to comment while a representative for the New York Daily News could not immediately be reached for a comment.

Oil drops to $55 as Iran nuclear talks intensify

cabGeneral view shows oil treatment facilities at Vankorskoye oil field owned by Rosneft company north of Krasnoyarsk By Ron Bousso LONDON (Reuters) - Brent crude oil dropped towards $55 a barrel on Tuesday as Iran and six world powers entered a final day of talks over a nuclear deal that could see the energy-rich country increase oil exports to world markets. With a self-imposed deadline set for the end of the day, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China ramped up the pace of negotiations with Iran in Switzerland over an outline deal on Tehran's nuclear programme. Disagreements on enrichment research and the pace of lifting sanctions remained as hurdles that could scupper a deal to end a 12-year standoff between Iran and the West. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Moscow he believed the talks had a good chance of success.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is pictured in this handout photo presented as evidence by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Boston Defense of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is expected to intensify on Tuesday with his lawyers' first full day of calling witnesses. They have contended that Tsarnaev's brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was the driving force behind the bombing and that Dzhokhar played a secondary role in it and in the fatal shooting of a police officer three days later. Their argument is intended to reduce Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's relative culpability in the jury's eyes and persuade them to sentence him to life in prison. On Monday, prosecutors wrapped up their case against Tsarnaev with testimony from the medical examiners who autopsied 23-year-old Chinese exchange student Lingzi Lu and 8-year-old Martin Richard.

Brent crude was down 25 cents at $56.16 a barrel by 1250 GMT as the market began to price in a deal with Iran. Def Leppard frontman on maintaining the stamina to play live

In this Feb. 17, 2015 photo, Joe Elliott poses during an interview in New York. Elliott said it was important to tweak to the mantra of sex, drugs and roll ‘n’ roll in order to sustain the band’s longevity, which has covered four decades. “At the end of the day, the first thing that needs to go out of that phrase is the drugs. The rest can stay, but let’s make rock and roll the important thing,” said Elliot, who will go on a tour of North America with Styx and Tesla this year. (AP Photo/John Carucci) NEW YORK (AP) — Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott understands that the working life of a rock band no longer comes with an expiration date. All that's required is to make great music and stay healthy to endure the rigors of the road.
